Our Faith In Action-Mission Ministries
Judson has a 100-year history of moving faith into action, both in the neighborhood community where it resides and in the greater world. In this new millennium, being a steward of our planet with Christian principles, opens new opportunities for growth and influence. From supporting local, sustainable food with the Whole Farm Cooperative, to one of our family’s work for peace in Thailand, Judson continues to commit to important work all over the greater community.
At Judson, the Christian story takes on meaning and relevance in our lives: honoring our deepest differences, seeking justice and mercy, implementing our gifts and nurturing our children.
As Joseph Campbell, a scholar of myth and religion said “We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.”
“Mission is not merely an activity of the church. In fact, the church does not have a mission, but God has, and the church is called to participate in God’s mission in the world. God’s mission began when God called Israel through Abraham to be a light and blessing to all nations. Hence, the mission of the church is to do the work of peace rooted in justice.” (from Hrang Hlei’s workshop at the recent conference of the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America).

The theme this year for One Great Hour of Sharing is “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will Stay.” (Ruth 1:16) OGHS supports disaster relief, development projects, and refugee ministries of the American Baptist Churches and its partners. On January 22, Judson will be taking an offering for One Great Hour of Sharing. You can write a check to Judson with OGHS in the memo line or put cash in the envelopes that will be provided in the pews. Judson’s Missions—Opportunities for Giving
The Mission Committee chose 2 Global Missions and 4 Local Missions for the 2016-2017 year. The Global Missions are En Via and Shapan Border Orphanage. The Local Missions are Loaves & Fishes, Starfish, Nicollet Square, and Youth Link.
Throughout the year, we continue to focus on these missions individually, but, you may donate to any of them any time by noting that on your check or offering card. Consider making an end-of-the-year donation.
On the table at the back of the sanctuary there is more information about each mission and offering envelopes. You can also talk to any of the Mission Committee members: Randy Baker, Sarah Baker, Clay Gustafson, Jimmi Langemo, Eileen McLaughlin, Laquita Powers, Jim Ten Bensel, Kathy Urbaniak, Marlys Wiens, and Linda Wingader. Thank you for your past support and donations for Judson’s Missions.
These gifts will provide greatly needed supports for months to come for our neighbors in need. However, the need for cash assistance for rent,
utilities, diapers, etc. continues to be great, especially in the winter months. Here are a few facts regarding the Starfish Ministry. Did you know:
- Since its inception in 2011, Starfish has served 205 individuals or families.
- Approximately 20% of those have been served more than once as their life situations represent their chronic
poverty/need. Starfish limits assistance to one time per year per request.
- Monthly budget amounts distributed by the volunteers range from $21,800 to $3,000, depending on funds
available. A minimum amount is kept in the account from month to month, practicing the belief that the
money is donated to help those in the community and should be used for that purpose and on a timely
- The monthly budget is exhausted between the 3rd and the 12th of the month. Usually, funds are exhausted
by the 5th or 6th day on the month.
- All money donated to Starfish goes to people in need. There are no administrative or personnel costs.
As we begin the New Year with hope and optimism, please prayerfully consider donating
your time and money to those in our local community who could benefit from the sharing
of our financial, physical and emotional resources.

“Just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
The Judson faith community is an American Baptist congregation, liberal and ecumenical in perspective. We welcome persons of differing religious and racial backgrounds and sexual orientations.
The church is committed to work for justice, reconciliation, and healing in the world. It seeks to provide avenues for its people to carry out that commitment through its mission ministries.
“Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” (Amos 5:24)
