Email Notes from Travis
Well, it was a nice day, overall, at the Bandshell despite the planes, the woman skateboarding by with a case of peaches on her shoulder, the feedback from the microphone, and the non-Judsoners who didn’t know they could laugh at some of my best material… As I pedaled home with the family I thought of the many assumptions we shared freely worshiping outdoors without any fear of attack or threat of terror, but our Muslim brothers and sisters do not share those same assumptions. And that is just wrong. So I sat down late Sunday night and typed out an essay which ran in the Star Tribune on Tuesday.
I wrote a similar piece nearly ten years ago concerning the misnamed “Ground Zero Mosque.” Despite the passage of so much time, the issues are still the same.
Therefore I am offering a sermon this Sunday titled “The Beautiful Tradition,” think of it as a Baptist 101 class in less than 10 minutes (I’ll do my best on the time). Our tradition really is a beautiful one, I hope you too see and embrace its beauty. Hope to see you on Sunday.

Gordon Smith Judson Fund
The Gordon Smith Judson Fund (GSJF) is an endowment fund envisioned and initiated by the generous gift of church member Gordon Smith, then created and sustained by the ongoing support of the congregation of Judson Memorial Baptist Church. Gordon was supported by his church to attend a Baptist Youth Conference in Oslo, Norway. While there, he received what he referred to as his call to a ministry which inspired his subsequent life’s work serving for many years with American Baptist organizations. His desire was to provide opportunities for individuals to continue to move forward the Kingdom of God into the future for posterity. Consequently, the purpose of the fund is to provide financial support to individuals of any age, or groups, who are members of or attend Judson Memorial Baptist Church and who have a plan that meets the vision and requirements outlined.
